With two distinctly different faces, this stair embodies all of Slattery & Acquroff's design principles.
Complicated designs like this require a great deal of flexibility and expertise. From every angle, the stair deceives the eyes and belies traditional form.
Functionally speaking, the stair's cantilevered treads provide extra space in the void behind, while the generous width and casual rise are made for comfortable walking.
From the back, the closed rise, cut string cantilever stair is plastered, for decorative effect.
