This reproduction staircase is as complex as it is beautiful. When the decision was made to rebuild the St Kilda Pier café to its original condition after it was destroyed by fire, the staircase was a key challenge. Slattery & Acquroff was selected for the project. In this project the stairwell was a central component. With a number of changes in pitch, the original detail and material requirements plus being a commercial premises this staircase had many challenges. The strings are cut to the profile of the treads and risers with traditional tread brackets. The balustrade is timber with an individually designed turned (ex 50*50 mm) baluster.
